SECOND STRAIGHT NASCAR MODIFIED WIN FOR RSWC & STEVE COTE
MONTREAL, QUEBEC (July 19, 2011) – NASCAR Modified driver Steve Cote brought the #4 Allstar Performance car to victory for the second straight week, winning Saturday night’s feature at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif. The Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle driver led the final 20 laps of the 40 lap contest after battling teammate Bobby Runyan.
Cote used the win to close on the top-two in the points standings as he chases track champion honors in 2011. The 2010 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Quebec champion is in the midst of a hot streak with an average finish of 2.4 in his last five starts.
Cote qualified second on Saturday, just as he did before winning on July 9, with a 14.191 second lap on the track. The qualifying effort placed him fourth on the grid for the 40 lap contest on the one-third mile asphalt oval near Sacramento.
By lap five, Cote had worked his way up to second place behind Runyan. The RSWC teammates ran first and second through lap 21. Cote challenged Runyan several times, finally passing him for the lead right as the caution came out for a spinning car. Transponder scoring confirmed that Cote had passed Runyan by just inches when the yellow flag flew.
Cote picked the inside groove for the restart and pulled away from Runyan. Cote continued a strong pace to the checkered flag winning by nearly a full second. All 40 laps of the feature were led by Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle cars with Cote leading 20 of them.
“His racing experience showed through in the first win when he beat veteran Scott Winters,” Team Manager Jason Houghtaling said. “Steve has come a long way in a short time and we are just getting started with a lot of wins yet to come!”
The NASCAR Modifieds will return to action on Saturday July 23 for their fourth consecutive week of racing in the middle of an eight week stretch.
Racing action gets underway at 6 p.m. PST and can be followed live around the world on Cote’s website at www.stevecoteracing.com
