WALMER ADDS ANOTHER POLE POSITION TO USAC YOUNG GUNS RESUME
Portland, OR (July 9, 2011)- 16 year-old Keegan Walmer competed in two different classes in the USAC division, USAC Young Guns and USAC Focus Midgets Saturday night at the .25 mile oval of Stockton 99 Speedway. Besides USAC, on the off weekends Walmer keeps up with competition and runs a NASCAR Whelen All American Modified at All American Speedway.
Walmer drives the No. 24 K&N Filters Midget for Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle, a driver development program based in Sacramento, California. Walmer has three USAC wins for the 2011 season with two wins in the USAC Focus Midget division and one in the USAC Young Guns.
First on the night for Keegan was the USAC Young Guns category, Walmer started off the night with pole position in qualifying with a fast time of 14.133 seconds. In the heat, Walmer finished second right on the rear bumper of the leader posting the fastest lap of the race of 14.090 seconds. Walmer captured a steady second place finish in the trophy dash leading him into the 30 lap main event. Keegan started fast out of the box, and Walmer earned a third place finish while posting fastest lap of the race of 14.087 seconds averaging 63 miles per hour around the quarter mile oval.
In his second division of the night, USAC Focus Midget division, Walmer fresh off of back to back wins qualified fourth with a time of 13.780 seconds nearly missed pole position by .073 seconds. Walmer started fourth in the heat race and had an early two position jump landing him the second position setting him up to start fourth in the main event. Walmer held onto his fourth position for most of the race until lap 21 an incident occurred and he fell back to the tail end of the field leaving Walmer to battle back to the front. Walmer ran out of time and finished in the sixth position placing him second in the Northern California Ford Focus Midget points with a mere eight points from first.
Walmer’s Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle teammate Trevor hunt, won the Young Guns Trophy Dash and the Main Event.
“I would like to thank Ron Sutton and the crew, we had a great car and could have won the race. I was hoping to be in victory lane after a rough night but the car will be in victory lane at the next race August 13th,” stated Keegan Walmer.
"Keegan was the pace setter in practice, and after coming off back-to back wins, was the favorite,” stated head of driver development, Ron Sutton. “But, tonight several issues kept him out of the winners circle. He'll be back there soon."
Keegan Walmer will return in his NASCAR Modified at All American Speedway this Saturday, July 16th and will return in the USAC division on July 23rd at All American Speedway.
