COTE CHARGES TO RUNNER-UP FINISH IN NASCAR MODIFIEDS AT ROSEVILLE
MONTREAL, QUEBEC (May 24, 2011) - 20 year-old Steve Cote drove the #4 Allstar Performance NASCAR Modified to a career-best second place finish on Saturday night at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif.
The 2010 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Quebec champion drives for Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle. RSWC is a comprehensive driver development program based in Sacramento, Calif. that develops an international roster of talented drivers towards a career in motorsports.
Cote joined the RSWC program after a successful tryout in the Shoot-Out last October. He is driving the full season at All American Speedway in the #4 Allstar Performance machine.
In qualifying, Cote was 10th after running a lap of 14.342 seconds around the one-third mile oval. He went on to win his heat race by a commanding 1.2 seconds over the field. Starting 10th in the 15 car feature event, Cote leapt up to seventh in the early laps and then narrowly avoided a multi-car crash on the frontstretch to move into fourth by lap four.
Cote passed Ryan Peter for third on lap 10 but lost the position several laps later. Cote finally took the spot on lap 21 and began to reel in second place Cody Thompson. Cote made a strong pass on the inside of Thompson on lap 38 and cruised home to a second place finish. The second place run is Cote’s best race of the season and first top-five effort.
“Steve did a solid driving job this weekend,” Driver Coach Ron Sutton said. “He moved up to third quickly, got shuffled back to fifth on a restart, then made a charge all the way to second. His first Modified win is surely on the horizon!”
Cote will return back to All American Speedway this Saturday night with twin main events scheduled. Racing action gets underway at 6 p.m. PST and can be followed live on Cote’s website at www.stevecoteracing.com
