FAST TIME FOR CLARK AT STOCKTON KEEPS HER ATOP NATIONAL POINTS
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CALIFORNIA (May 24, 2011) – Jessica Clark continued her groundbreaking season, as the talented female racer added a pole position at Stockton 99 Speedway on Saturday night to her already impressive 2011 USAC Ford Focus Midget season that has her leading the national standings.
The Southern California teen is a member of the Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle program which develops drivers for a career in motorsports. Clark drives in both the USAC Ford Focus Midgets and the NASCAR S2 Sportsman divisions.
Although Clark’s primary focus heading into the season was her transition to the stock car ranks, her early success in the USAC cars has placed a spotlight on the driver. Clark topped the field in qualifying on Saturday night, with a 13.667 lap around the quarter-mile oval. The lap gave Clark her first career pole position in a USAC Ford Focus.
The feature was a 30 lap affair compared with the 40 lap races the previous week in Roseville. The invert placed Clark sixth on the board with limited time to move forward. With only a few cautions in the race, Clark was unable to make much progress through the field logging a fifth place finish.
The finish was strong enough to maintain Clark’s lead in the USAC National Ford Focus Midget standings along with leading the USAC Western Pavement division. Clark is also ranked third in the USAC NorCal Ford Focus Midgets after two race meetings.
"Jessica ran a fine race this weekend at Stockton,” Driver Coach Ron Sutton said. “Her qualifying ability has improved dramatically which is crucial for her to win the championship!”
