Peterson Sweeps Ignite Midgets at Stockton 99

STOCKTON,CA- Last Saturday night was the Fall Classic race for the 2012 USAC NorCal Ignite Midget series at Stockton 99 Speedway. The division headed into round thirteen and fourteen with exciting racing action and point's leader Garrett Peterson was able to hold off the challenging field to run for another double victory.

Peterson swept all three practice sessions putting him on pole with a fast time of 13.471 seconds. Followed by Ricky Bowers, Sheldon Didinger, Tyler Edwards and Molly Helmuth the fast five. The top four qualifiers ran in the four lap trophy dash and Peterson took the lead early in the dash and cruised to a 1.168 victory.

In the first 30 lap main event the starting lineup was straight up from the qualifying order setting Peterson and Bowers on the front row. Peterson had a great run on the start to grab the early lead as Bowers would tuck in behind him. Edwards and Hill battled for third as Edwards was able to steal third place on lap three. Helmuth ran down Hill as the duo raced hard for fourth swapping positions. Helmuth would grab fourth for good on lap 12.  In the closing laps, Peterson gained a lot of track space over second and the remainder of the field ran consistent in their positions.  Peterson sailed to a 4.245 second victory over Ricky Bowers, Tyler Edwards, Molly Helmuth and Sheldon Didinger the final five.

A full invert was drawn for the division placing Spencer Hill and Sheldon Didinger on the front row, however, trouble struck both Didinger and Edwards making Peterson move up the line. Peterson wasted no time and took the early lead from Hill. Hill and Edwards raced hard for second and Edwards was able to get by on lap two. By lap five, Bowers ran down third passing Helmuth and jumped to the inside of Hill for third. As Peterson picked up a huge lead, Bowers and Edwards battled hard for second. The duo collided and both fell back in the field handing second over to Hill and third to Helmuth. In the closing laps, Peterson had a big lead and Hill ran consistent in second while Bowers worked his way back up to third. Peterson went on to sweep the nights events collecting his 13th win. Followed by Spencer Hill, Ricky Bowers, Tyler Edwards and Molly Helmuth the top five.
